About Me

I'm Rob, an Oxford graduate, Old Mertonian, freelance classicist, software developer and left-wing blogger.

This blog is my public platform for writing about the issues that interest me: social justice, equality, civil liberties and human rights. Mostly, it consists of comment on current news stories and reviews of relevant books.

In general, the guiding principles of this blog are that I should use my privileged position, as a middle-class Oxford graduate, to speak out for those who are less able to speak for themselves, or that I should talk about things I have experience of. This tends to bias my coverage towards students and Oxbridge on the one hand, and criminals, people in the developing world and people on benefits on the other: on matters like feminism and disability rights, I prefer to link to others who are more articulate and better-informed than me.

Please feel free to comment or to contact me: that's the point of blogging!
